Track of the Day: J Boogie's Dubtronic Science, Featuring Lunar Heights, 'Inferno,' (2008, Om Records, from the LP Soul Vibrations)

This is the third and final installment of J Boogie collaborations with some talented and groovy artists. This time, J Boogie, the DJ/Producer/Bandleader of J Boogie's Dubtronic Science, has hooked up with East Bay rappers Lunar Heights, who are 3 MC's deep in the rhyme, to lend their talents to the irresistible 'Inferno.' After Lunar Heights ignites a 9-alarm fire of epic proportions on the dancefloor, it's the unbilled Aima the Dreamer (a featured J-Boogie co-conspirator on several other tracks) who takes the flame, blows it up, then burns it down in an 11-alarm scorcher...she makes the fire go 'Blaze!'

The beats in 'Inferno' are punctuated by intermittent, staccato-laced horn and sax bursts, tasty funk guitar chops that churn in the background, and of course, that ubiquitous repetitive bass line. I've attached an Mp3 link to the original song from the 2008 J-Boogie LP Soul Vibrations, which extends the groove (at 5:58) past the YouTube video edit (4:07) I've attached below (complete with breakdancing interludes!). The LP version stretches out with an instrumental break showcasing some great sax soloing over afro-latin steel drum fills and punctuated by washes of echoing keys as the song makes its final outro approach.

'Heights Men in the Building
And the Fire Go Blaze!
And the Fire Go Blaze!
And the Fire Go Blaze!
Go Ladies Lunar Heights Higher Heights Like This
That's How We Do it This Way
When We're In the Bay...
Blaze Fire Blaze!
Blaze Fire Blaze!
Blaze Fire Blaze!'
